Why did you choose podiatry?

I was first introduced to podiatry back in 2010 when I suffered a sprained ankle resulting from incorrectly wearing a pair of pumps. The podiatrist made it a point to go above and beyond by treating my ankle sprain, showing me how to select an appropriate shoe, and he even gave me a good cover story to tell my friends. (I told all of my friends that I was riding on the back of my boyfriend’s Ducati motorcycle when I accidently took my foot off of the peg while we were still in motion. If they knew the truth, I would never hear the end of it.) Podiatry is one of the few medical specialties that will allow me the flexibility to practice medicine as well as have an opportunity to start a family.

What is the biggest surprise/challenge about podiatry school so far?

One of the biggest challenges about podiatry school so far is the lack of free time that I have to bake and watch Netflix. I’ve become very popular amongst my friends for my various gourmet baked sweets. I’m a huge fan of making bite-sized pies and cakes; I’ve recently mastered a peach cobbler cupcake and cheesecake pops. This winter break will definitely be spent  wisely: I’ll be able to get tons of baking done and even try out my new Nutella s’mores bars recipe.

Where do you see yourself in 2040?

By 2040, I hope to be the medical director of a diabetic wound care clinic in Los Angeles. I also plan to have developed an exercise shoe that suits individuals who suffer from obesity.

What is something surprising about you?

I graduated from high school at 16.
