Residencies
Council Adopts New Residency Documents
At its October 2010 meeting, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education formally adopted CPME publications 320, Standards and Requirements for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies, and 330, Procedures for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies. CPME 320 establishes a single three-year residency - the podiatric medicine and surgery residency (PMSR). The PMSR replaces the current two-year and three-year residencies in podiatric medicine and surgery (PM&S-24 and PM&S-36). The implementation date for both documents was July 1, 2011.

Annual Report
The Council requires that sponsors of approved podiatric residencies submit an annual report that is used to provide information published in CPME 300, Approved Residencies in Podiatric Medicine. The annual report also is used to inform the council regarding changes in the administration and curriculum of the residency program, changes in sites providing resident training, and to identify appointed and graduating residents.

Evaluation Team Report
The Council requires on-site evaluation team members reviewing residencies in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery to complete a report assessing the general quality of the residency, the institution’s ability to achieve the competencies established for the program, and the institution’s plans for continued improvement. This report, CPME 370, Evaluation Team Report for Podiatric Medical and Surgical Residency, is already available as a Word document on this page. As part of the council’s ongoing efforts to improve the reporting process for evaluators and residency programs, CPME 370 is now being made available to team members only as an interactive Web document that allows the teams to better utilize the information provided by the institutions in CPME 310, Pre-Evaluation Report.
