Memoranda to Residency Program Directors
Twice a year, following each meeting of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, council staff forwards the “memo to directors” to directors of podiatric medical education and chief administrative officers of all institutions involved in providing residency training. The memo is sent to new programs eligible for on-site evaluation, approved programs, and programs that are in the process of requesting reconsideration and/or appeal. The memo is also posted on the council’s website.
The memo has a number of purposes. We include all proposed changes to council documents (standards, requirements, and procedures) with a request for comments by a specific deadline. The memo is also designed to inform you of document changes that were adopted by the council, as well as any changes that were tabled, modified, or deleted as a result of comments provided previously by the community of interest. When the Residency Review Committee (RRC) or the council develops a policy (e.g., interpretation of a particular requirement in a council or RRC document), the policy is included in the memo to directors. Finally, the memo often includes enclosures such as new or revised documents and/or forms adopted by the council and/or the RRC.
Please take a few minutes to read the memo each time you receive it or check our website periodically. The memo is our primary means of informing you of proposed changes in documents related to the approval of the program that you direct.
