APMA Reacts to Proposed Rule on Practitioners’ Qualifications to Furnish/Fabricate Prosthetics and Orthotics

February 6, 2017

CMS proposed a new rule on January 12 that, among other things, would establish new requirements for practitioners who might to wish to furnish and fabricate durable medical equipment (DME) directly to patients. Recognizing how critical it is to high-quality patient care for our members to be able to furnish DME directly in their offices, APMA is in the process of addressing this proposed rule head-on. See the list of impacted HCPCS codes.

APMA staff and leadership met in person with the DME Workgroup last week during the New York State Podiatric Medical Association's Clinical Conference to discuss best options and approaches. APMA will be responding to CMS with comments and will provide updates as available.
