Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has introduced the VA Provider Equity Act (S. 1871) in the US Senate. All APMA members should call their US senators to request cosponsorship of the bill.
The APMA-crafted legislation aims to resolve ongoing recruitment and retention issues for podiatrists employed by the Veterans Health Administration (VA). As the sole medical doctor on the committee, Sen. Cassidy is uniquely suited to be an advocate for fair and equitable treatment of podiatrists at the VA. The bill has already been passed by the US House of Representatives, and with the support of both of your senators, we believe it will pass this session.
This legislation is key to resolving the issues at the VA and providing high-quality care to our veterans, a most deserving population. But it is also a stepping stone to eliminating disparities in physician recognition under federal statute that limit podiatrists’ potential nationwide. Please take the time to call your lawmakers today to support this vital legislation.
