Welcome to the Kids' Zone

Hi, kids. I'm Jordan. This Web site has lots of information about foot health and a disease called diabetes. There are two main types of diabetes; Type 1 diabetes, which results when the body’s system for fighting infection (the immune system) turns against a part of the body, and Type 2 diabetes, which is the most common form of the disease.

Type 2 diabetes can run in your family and you might not even know it! I learned all about it in school, with the help of TV sportscaster James Brown. On the Kids' Zone Web site, you can learn all about your feet and ways to prevent diabetes and other diseases that affect the feet.

Click on "Jordan's story" to watch my cartoon. You will find out what I learned at school and see what I taught my friend Roberto, my mom, and my grandpa. After you watch it, you can teach your family all about diabetes, too!

In the "Things to Make and Do" section you can get creative with lots of fun activities. Staying active and eating right are two ways that can help prevent diabetes.

There are fun games, quizzes, tips, and lots of other information that you can print out and share with your friends and family. And there's even a drawing competition! Twelve winners will receive a free pair of APMA seal-approved running shoes.

About this Web Site
Diabetes is a devastating disease that affects 21 million Americans. Diabetes does not discriminate - it strikes the young and old, and people of all races. And with diabetes reaching epidemic levels, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is striving to educate people about this disease through its annual "Diabetes Is a Family Affair" campaign. This web site was created by APMA to help families like yours learn more about foot health, including diabetes.
