Boone, North Carolina -- posted 04.21.17 -- Horizon Surgical Specialists is a limb-salvage vascular/podiatry private practice based in Western NC. We have offices in Lenoir, Boone and West Jefferson and serve Caldwell-UNC Hospital, Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, and Ashe Memorial Hospital. We also have extensive outpatient diagnostic and interventional laboratory facilities, owned by the practice. We function primarily as a limb-salvage team for patients with critical limb ischemia. Many patients are seen jointly by Podiatry and Vascular Surgery, either as outpatients or as inpatients in the hospitals we staff; and subsequently undergo evaluation and combined vascular intervention and podiatric surgical procedures. Our podiatry division also sees a large number of both simple and complex foot and ankle problems and performs foot/ankle reconstructive procedures in the two largest hospitals, including tendon transfers, pin/rod/frame cases, and transfer flaps (in conjunction with a vascular surgeon). Obtaining privileges for complex foot and ankle surgery in all three hospital systems is not problematic for podiatric surgeons. We also staff two busy hospital-based wound centers. We are the only limb-salvage practice in the region and the only vascular providers for a 6 county area in the NC mountains. The region is also underserved with podiatry and most of the major foot and ankle issues are seen by our practice. The area is beautiful; our central base of operations is Boone in Watauga County, the home of Appalachian State University. Watauga's public school system is one of the top systems in the state, and the area offers an excellent quality of life for family and outdoor activities.
