Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Perry Julien is a podiatric physician specializing in the medical, biomedical, and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle with an emphasis on sports medicine. His interest in sports medicine was a natural progression from his background in alpine ski racing, running, cycling, and mountain climbing. When not practicing podiatry, he is also a "professional" amateur photographer with an interest in music photography. Since 1977, he has photographed some of the world's most popular musical artists including Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, and U2.

"I have always been passionate about sports and committed to a career in sports medicine," Dr. Julien states emphatically. "I applied to allopathic medical school but soon after I discovered podiatric medicine when I attended a meeting of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM). I got to see podiatric sports medicine there at its highest level. These were the movers and shakers in the profession, and I knew right away that I wanted to pursue a career in podiatric medicine and surgery."

Dr. Julien earned his DPM degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 1987. He completed his residency in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery at Atlanta Hospital in Georgia in 1989. From that day on, it was a race to the finish for Dr. Julien, now one of the most prominent sports medicine physicians in the country.

"To me, sports medicine is more than specialty. It is also a philosophy of keeping active people on their feet. This includes not only the elite athlete, but anyone whose lifestyle requires them to stand and move." As an athlete and a doctor, Dr. Julien has the advantage of practicing what he preaches.

Dr. Julien's credentials are impressive and represent the best in Georgia sports. He is currently the team podiatrist for the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team and the Atlanta Falcons football team. He is also the co-medical director for the Peachtree Road Race, the largest 10k running race in the world. During the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Dr. Julien was chosen to coordinate foot and ankle services in the Olympic Village Polyclinic and served as medical administrator for the marathons and racewalks.

Dr. Julien obviously works hard and plays hard. He resides in Marietta, Georgia with his wife Lisa and daughter Monika, who is now attending Drexel University in Philadelphia. Lisa has completed four marathons and is a yoga teacher, and Monika is a music business major, which makes for a nice family balance with Dr. Julien's love of sports medicine and music photography.
