AzPMA Wins on Scope of Practice

April 10, 2017

APMA congratulates the Arizona Podiatric Medical Association (AzPMA) on a job well done. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (R) recently signed into law a bill that expands podiatrists’ scope of practice in that state to include amputations. AzPMA President Alan Discont, DPM, and his board deserve special recognition for this accomplishment.

Dr. Discont has been a tireless advocate for this legislation and has demonstrated a longstanding commitment both to advancing podiatry and protecting patient access. Thanks to the work of our AzPMA colleagues, the bill ultimately enjoyed the support of the Arizona Medical Association, the Arizona Osteopathic Association, and the Arizona State Board of Podiatry Examiners.

“This statute update will greatly reduce the physical, emotional, and financial burden to our citizens, their families, and the state, by reducing medical costs and preventing catastrophic outcomes, such as loss of limbs and life," Dr. Discont said. Congratulations to our colleagues in Arizona.
