CMS to Reduce Medicare Claims for Some X-Rays in 2018 Members Only Content

Effective January 1, 2018, Medicare claims for X-rays taken using computed radiography/cassette-based imaging must include modifier “FY” and a 7-percent reduction in reimbursement will be applied to the technical component (and the technical component of the global fee) from 2018–22, and the reduction will increase to 10 percent in 2023. For purposes of this provision, computed radiography (CR) is defined as “Cassette-based imaging utilizing an imaging plate to create the image involved.”
