APMA member Robert Iannacone, DPM, wants you to shovel less and cycle more this March. This year’s American Diabetes Association (ADA) Tour de Cure cycling event takes place Sunday, March 25, at Lake Nona in southeast Orlando, FL. Team FPMA once again plans to host a group dinner on Saturday evening, as well as a Sunday morning group event for photos before the ride begins. The event directly supports research, education, and advocacy for people living with type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Participants will receive a free FPMA cycling jersey.
In 2017, Dr. Iannacone invited fellow Florida Podiatric Medical Association (FPMA) members to join him on Team FPMA, a fundraising group designed to support medical charities closely related to podiatry. Nine podiatrists, three spouses, and a friend took him up on the offer, and they raised more than $8,000 for the cause. “It was a great way to promote podiatry and support the ADA,” Dr. Iannacone said. “But we also made it a social event. We held a group dinner and a bike clinic, and we had a lot of fun.” Dr. Iannacone, an avid cyclist, has ridden in three Tour de Cure cycling events.
