Resources For Policymakers

Doctors of podiatric medicine are podiatric physicians and surgeons, also known as podiatrists, who receive medical education and training comparable to medical doctors:

  • four years of undergraduate education;
  • four years of graduate education at one of nine podiatric medical colleges; and
  • three years of hospital-based post-graduate residency training.

On this page, policymakers can learn more about podiatric medicine and the issues affecting podiatrists and their patients. Please support legislation and policies recognizing that podiatrists are uniquely qualified among medical professionals to treat the foot, ankle, and related structures of the leg based on their education, training, and experience.
