Alert: Critical Medicare Incentive Payment Deadlines Approaching

February 12, 2018

Deadline approaching
MIPS Performance Year 2017

The reporting period for the 2017 MIPS performance period is currently in progress. Members should be aware of the following deadlines to ensure they don’t receive a negative adjustment on their Medicare payments in 2019:

  • March 1, 2018—If you are reporting quality measures via claims, March 1 is the last day to submit quality measures for patients seen by December 31, 2017, for the claim to count toward the 2017 performance year.
  • March 24, 2018—If you are attesting for the Advancing Care Information (ACI) and Clinical Practice Improvement Activities (CPIA) via the APMA Registry, the last day to attest is March 24, 2018. The APMA Registry will be open by the end of next week for members who are registered to begin reporting.
  • March 31, 2018—If you are reporting any of or all of your performance measures via a registry other than APMA, March 31 is the last day to report per CMS regulation. However, members should still verify any internal deadlines that their chosen registry may have set for attestation.

To learn more about the 2017 MIPS performance period, members can visit www.apma.org/MIPS2017, or contact APMA’s Health Policy and Practice Department at healthpolicy.hpp@apma.org.

Medicare EHR Incentive Program 2018 Payment Adjustments

Members may now be receiving notices from CMS that they did not successfully demonstrate meaningful use of EHR technology for the 2016 performance period. Clinicians who failed to successfully demonstrate will receive a 3-percent negative payment adjustment for 2018 Medicare Part B payments. If you have received this notice and believe it to be in error, you are strongly encouraged to complete CMS’ CY 2018 Payment Adjustment Reconsideration Form no later than February 19. Please note: The application PDF includes an old deadline of January 31. CMS has extended this deadline to February 19 and notes this extension on the webpage where the form is housed.
