With the help of APMA's advocacy, the process by which Hospital Inpatient and Observation Care, Consultation, Nursing Facility, and Home or Residence E/M service levels are selected will change, effective January 1, 2023.  APMA has updated our resource page to give you updated guidance on how to understand and  reflect these changes in your coding in 2023.

The selection methodology for those E/M types will now match the selection methodology for office and other outpatient E/M services which took effect January 1, 2021. These welcome changes remove barriers that previously made it difficult for some specialists to reach higher level E/M levels. APMA has a robust education plan for 2023  to ensure members are ready for these changes.
