Updated February 27, 2023

On February 28, APMA representatives will participate in a multi-jurisdictional panel to examine coverage for Remote Physiologic Monitoring (RPM) and, tentatively, Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM). RPM allows a practice to monitor certain patient physiologic parameters remotely and respond to the information received. APMA’s presenters will focus on the value of these services in foot and ankle care for diabetic patients and other conditions and reviewed the clinical evidence to support these services. APMA’s RPM work group has been meeting regularly since October 2022 and collaborated with APMA’s Clinical Practice Advisory Committee (CPAC) and outside stakeholders to discuss the clinical evidence and coordinate a response to the multi-jurisdictional CAC.

In September 2022, APMA became aware of a multi-jurisdictional CAC, including Novitas Solutions, First Coast Service Options, Noridian Healthcare Solutions, CGS Administrators, Palmetto GBA, and WPS Government Health Administrators.

A panel was formed to examine coverage for RPM and RTM. RPM allows a practice to monitor certain patient physiologic parameters remotely and respond to the information received.

In October 2022, APMA’s Health Policy and Practice Committee (HPPC) established a work group to help steer APMA’s activities in coordination with APMA’s Coding and Clinical Practice Advisory Committees. In furtherance of these efforts, APMA had nominated several participants to the multi-jurisdictional panel and encouraged other APMA Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) representatives to submit their names for inclusion. The multi-jurisdictional work group has not yet named its participants, but APMA will remain involved in the process and will submit supportive literature and comments when applicable.
