The APMA Coding Committee and Health Policy and Practice Committee held meetings last week to discuss ongoing concerns and plan member education for the upcoming year.

The Coding Committee met on Friday, May 12. Committee Chair David Freedman, DPM, led the committee through in-depth discussions on topics including -25 modifier and significant, separately identifiable evaluation and management services billed with other services; E/M coding; NCCI advocacy, and other issues. In addition, the committee members set out a member education plan for the year, including APMA News articles, webinars, and infographics. Ed Prikaszczikow, DPM, chaired the Health Policy and Practice Committee (HPPC) meeting on Saturday, May 13. The committee discussed the numerous efforts surrounding member education and advocacy on a number of issues: 

• CAC engagement and ongoing LCD, LCA, and MAC issues, including surgical treatment of nail, RPM, and upcoming multijurisdictional panels
• -59, -25 modifier, and NCCI advocacy 
• DEA MATE requirements and advocacy
• Private insurance outreach efforts
• DME same or similar and other concerns
• Member issues with Medicare Advantage coverage policies and chart reviews

The committee discussed member education activities and advocacy priorities for the upcoming year, including cross collaboration with other committees and additional outreach to other industry stakeholders to collaborate on shared advocacy concerns.
