David G. Edwards, DPM, of Logan, UT, was installed as president of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) during the organization’s 99th House of Delegates meeting in March.

Dr. Edwards addressed that meeting, speaking about his ancestors who passed along their pioneer spirit, encouraging his fellow physicians to take action to improve access to high-quality foot and ankle care. “I hope you will join me this year in giving thanks for the trailblazers of the past, embracing the challenges of the present, and designing a bold plan for the future.”

Among Dr. Edwards’ priorities for his presidency is ensuring that Americans have access to care by a podiatrist under Medicaid. This legislative endeavor would safeguard much-needed foot and ankle care for America’s most vulnerable and at-risk patients.

Dr. Edwards has served on APMA’s Board of Trustees since 2008. He has served the Utah Podiatric Medical Association (UPMA) in various positions, including two stints as UPMA president, first in 1995.

Dr. Edwards earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1986. He completed his residency training at the New Mexico VA Healthcare System in Albuquerque in 1987.

Dr. Edwards and his wife, Rexann, have been married for nearly 40 years. He enjoys golfing, skiing, and belonging to “the grandparents club.” They have three children and six grandchildren.

The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the nation's leading professional organization for today’s podiatrists. Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) are qualified by their education, training, and experience to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and structures of the leg. APMA has 53 state component locations across the United States and its territories, with a membership of more than 12,500 podiatrists. All practicing APMA members are licensed by the state in which they practice podiatric medicine.
