Alex Pilkinton

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio

Personal Bio: I am starting my final year of podiatric residency training at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and I am looking to join a practice upon completion of my training in July 2024. My journey into becoming a podiatrist began as a student at East Tennessee State University, where I was introduced to the profession through a seminar course. My passion in pursuing this profession was initially spurred from a desire to understand the foot and ankle from a sports medicine perspective as a distance runner with frequent lower extremity injuries. As I transitioned from college into podiatry school, I became more aware of the diabetic epidemic and the numerous foot and ankle complications associated with this disease state. As a resident, I have become increasingly interested in pursuing diabetic limb salvage as a continued career goal for both increasing my understanding of advancements made in treating/preventing this disease process and surgical techniques to assist with complications associated with this disease. My residency training began in Philadelphia, PA with Crozer Health, where I completed 18 months of training. However, due to hospital closures, I opted to transfer to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for greater surgical volume and a more rigorous didactic training where I will have completed an additional 30 months of training with my pending graduation in June 2024. I am interested in joining a practice that will allow me to continue practicing the wide range of routine foot care, elective foot and ankle surgery, and potentially a practice with a role in the inpatient/wound care clinic setting.
