APMA met with CMS again on February 6 to revisit its policy on the surgical treatment of nails that establishes use parameters for CPT®11730 and 11732.

For the past several years, the Center for Professional Advocacy at APMA has collaborated closely with the Mississippi Podiatric Medical Association to modernize the state’s scope of practice to permit podiatric physicians to treat the ankle. Most recently, the CPA submitted a letter to the Mississippi State Legislature supporting MsPMA and refuting a letter from the AMA.

On January 8, APMA submitted comments to the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) in response to the draft evidence review and draft recommendation statement regarding falls prevention in community-dwelling older adults.

APMA submitted comments to HHS last week, responding to HHS’ proposed rule, “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, HHS Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for 2025; Updating Section 1332 Waiver Public Notice Procedures; Medicaid; Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP) Program; and Basic Health Program.”

APMA and DCPMA are advocating for DPMs regarding a proposal before the DC Council Committee on Health that if approved could have a significant impact on podiatric physicians and patients in the District.

On January 5, APMA submitted comments to CMS Policy and Technical Changes to the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Programs Proposed Rule, and in particular to respond to the proposed rule referenced above addressing supplemental benefits for the chronically ill and prior authorization.

APMA is deeply saddened to share that Past President Terence Albright, DPM, passed away at the end of December. He was the 2005 recipient of the APMA Distinguished Service Citation, APMA's highest honor.

In December 2023, Sarah Abshier, DPM, APMA’s CPT alternate advisor, was appointed to serve a four-year term representing the Health Care Professional Advisory Committee (HCPAC) on the CPT Editorial Panel.
