APMA Presses Lawmakers for Greater Transparency in Insurers' AI Practices

  • Sep 17, 2025

APMA submitted comments to the U.S. House Committee on Energy & Commerce in response to the Health Subcommittee hearing titled Examining Opportunities to Advance American Health Care through the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies. APMA's comments highlighted the potential benefits and significant risks of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into clinical practice, including administrative functions, and AI's growing use in coverage determinations and prior authorization.

APMA called on Congress to pass the Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act (H.R. 3514). This legislation would require CMS to investigate how the use of AI in prior authorization approvals impacts patient access to care.

Visit APMA's eAdvocacy Center to take action and urge your members of Congress to pass H.R. 3514 to cut administrative red tape, prevent harmful delays to care, and strengthen transparency around AI in the prior authorization process.
