APMA recently submitted comments to the U.S. House Committee on Ways & Means in response to its joint Subcommittee hearing titled Medicare Advantage: Past Lessons, Present Insights, Future Opportunities. APMA's comments highlighted ongoing challenges faced by podiatrists with Medicare Advantage (MA) plans and offered concrete solutions for Congress to address them. APMA stressed the need to reduce onerous chart reviews, eliminate burdensome prior authorization practices, and address coverage and payment discrepancies between traditional Medicare and MA.
APMA's letter called on Congress to support bipartisan legislation like the Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act (H.R. 3514) and the Prompt and Fair Pay Act (H.R. 4559). These would help ensure fair payment, improve transparency, and reduce administrative burdens. These changes would allow podiatrists to focus on patient care, prevent harmful delays in treatment, and ensure Medicare beneficiaries have consistent access to the services they need.
