APMA Urges Trump Administration to Remove Regulatory Burdens Related to DME

  • May 16, 2025

APMA is urging the Trump administration to rescind or revise unsound policies that impede patient access to care and increase administrative burdens for podiatrists. APMA recommended several regulations that are unnecessary and unduly burdensome, including:

  • DME policy for coverage and payment of medically necessary “same or similar” items; and
  • Medicare local coverage requirements for documenting medical necessity of therapeutic shoes for persons with diabetes.

These recommendations were made in response to the Trump Administration’s request for deregulation ideas.
