  • Jun 16, 2025

It is with deep sadness that APMA announces the passing of Past President E. Dalton McGlamry, DPM. Dr. McGlamry died June 14 at the age of 94.

Dr. McGlamry was a graduate of the then-Pennsylvania School of Podiatric Medicine in 1957. He served in the US Army, then began practice in Georgia. He quickly became a respected leader within the profession and at the American College of Foot Surgery (now ACFAS) and the American Podiatry Association (now APMA).

Dr. McGlamry played a critical role in advancing education and training, establishing a residency program at Doctors Hospital in Tucker, GA, that he expanded to become the first three-year residency in the early 1970s. He was the founding author of McGlamry’s Comprehensive Foot and Ankle Surgery, a seminal textbook for podiatric medical students worldwide. He also founded The Podiatry Institute, a nonprofit educational foundation that offers educational conferences and workshops. Dr. McGlamry served as an editor for JAPMA and JFAS.

Dr. McGlamry was president of APMA from 1972–1973. He was a powerful advocate for parity with other physicians and surgeons and continued to be involved in the profession for decades. He was the 1979 recipient of the Distinguished Service Citation, APMA’s highest honor.

On behalf of a grateful profession, APMA extends its deepest sympathy to Dr. McGlamry’s family. To make a donation to the APMA Educational Foundation in Dr. McGlamry’s memory, visit www.apma.org/donate.
