APMA and Other Physician Societies Endorse Bill to Delay the Flawed Efficiency Adjustment

  • Feb 16, 2026

APMA joined other physician societies to sign onto a letter led by the American College of Surgeons in support of the Efficiency Adjustment Delay Act (HR 7520). Introduced by Representative Ron Estes (R-KS) and Tom Suozzi (D-NY), the legislation would delay the “efficiency adjustment” finalized in the 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. It would also prevent any future adjustments from being calculated with similar productivity metrics.

The efficiency adjustment that went into effect on January 1 would lead to a 2.5 percent reduction in work Relative Value Units (RVUs) for non-time-based codes, further eroding Medicare reimbursement for physicians. Given its impact on practice stability and patient access, the provision must be delayed until CMS can provide adequate data to support the payment reduction.

Take action today and ask your representative to cosponsor HR 7520.
