APMA Educational Foundation Scholarships

 

 

The 2026–2027 student scholarship application season is now closed. 

The APMA Educational Foundation Scholarship Fund is the only national funding resource devoted to students at the colleges of podiatric medicine. With a mission to strengthen and expand the field of podiatric medicine, the Foundation provides critical scholarships while boosting nationwide awareness of foot and ankle health. Eligibility 

The APMA Educational Foundation awards scholarships to qualified students enrolled at the 11 schools of podiatric medicine across the country. You must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Podiatric medical student in good standing, as determined by the academic institution
  • Rising third- or fourth-year student 
  • Grade Point Average of 2.5 or above
  • APMA student member (see more under Quick Facts)
  • Demonstrated commitment to APMA's mission through podiatric community/school service, school leadership, or other student involvement

Quick Facts

  • Scholarship applicants must be members of APMA. All students are offered complimentary student membership with APMA. If you are not yet a member, visit apma.org/join-apma and complete the student opt-in form.
  • $437,500 in aid was awarded in 2025 to podiatric medical students.
  • 236 students received scholarship funding in the 2024–2025 scholarship cycle.
  • Scholarships are awarded from over 70 named endowed funds and other initiatives.
  • The minimum level of scholarship support is $1,000.
  • The scholarship fund has distributed more than $6 million in scholarship dollars to more than 5,000 students.

 

 

APMA Educational Foundation Annual Scientific Meeting (The National) Student & Resident Travel Scholarship Fund

 

Win a Travel Scholarship Covering Two Nights at the Gaylord Opryland to attend The National! 

The National is the premier event for continuing education and networking. Podiatrists gather each year to learn about the latest techniques, equipment, and treatments available to serve their patients. Registration for The National is complimentary for students and residents. If you would like a chance to win one of the ten travel scholarships available to students and residents, submit a video telling us why you want to attend along with your application below. 

Scholarship Requirements:

  1. Completed application 
  2. Submit a brief video stating what you are most looking forward to at The National
  3. You must be available to attend the majority of the meeting August 6–9, 2026 (only applicants attending three full days will be considered)

Video Submission:

Submit your 60-second video entry to the APMA Educational Foundation at edfoundation@apma.org OR include it with your application (apply via link below). Videos must be submitted by July 12 to be considered.

The American Podiatric Medical Writers Association (APMWA) Annual Student Writing Competition

Winners Announced for the 39th Annual APMWA Student Writing Competition

The American Podiatric Medical Writers Association (APMWA) has selected the winners of its 39th Annual Student Writing Competition. Darrah Speis, a third-year student at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, earned first place for her compelling paper titled "Show Me the Money – How the Internet Fuels the Podiatry Student Recruitment Crisis, and What We Can Do About It." In recognition of her achievement, Ms. Speis will receive a $1,000 honorarium, generously provided through a special endowment by Dr. and Mrs. Steven Berlin to the APMA Educational Foundation.

Second place was awarded to Rachel Young, a second-year student at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, for her thought-provoking paper, "The Ground of Being: Phenomenological Reflections on Podiatry." Ms. Young will receive a $750 honorarium in recognition of her work.

Bethany Robinson, a third-year student at the Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine at Midwestern University, received third place for her insightful paper, "Approaching Conversations About Body Weight with Patients." She will be awarded a $500 honorarium.

The APMA Educational Foundation is proud to support these awards and congratulates all participants for their thoughtful contributions and continued dedication to advancing the field of podiatric medicine through scholarly writing.
