APMA Advocates for Inclusion of DPMs in Physician-Focused Immigration Relief Policies

  • Jun 8, 2026

APMA recently urged the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security to explicitly include Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) and podiatric residents in physician-focused immigration prioritization and expedited processing policies. While applauding the US Citizenship and Immigration Services decision to lift adjudicative holds affecting many physician applications, APMA emphasized that podiatric physicians must also be included in these workforce protections. The letter highlights the essential role DPMs play in patient care and notes that visa delays can disrupt mandatory residency training, jeopardizing both workforce development and access to specialized foot and ankle care.
