APMA joined over 150 physician, research, and healthcare-related organizations in support of a letter, led by the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers, urging congressional leaders on the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to reject proposed regulations in the FY 2027 Presidential Budget Request that would restrict federal grant funding to scientific publications. The proposed regulations would condition payment eligibility of publication expenses for federally funded research while still expecting public access to research results. Expanding political appointees' authority to override federal research grant decisions would weaken the merit-based grant process and cast doubt on the federal research funding process.
As these developments unfold, APMA will continue to advocate for a robust federal research ecosystem with funding opportunities based on scientific merit.
