APMA recently met with Aetna leadership as part of APMA’s ongoing quarterly discussions with the insurer. Topics included prior authorization modernization, provider experience issues, modifier 25 concerns, and the use of AI and digital tools to streamline administrative processes.
Aetna provided updates on efforts to integrate prior authorization workflows directly into electronic health records and invited APMA to provide input on certain podiatry-relevant services, including skin substitutes. APMA also raised member concerns about escalating complex issues through AI-assisted provider service channels and discussed recurring modifier 25 concerns. In addition, experts shared information on intermittent pneumatic compression therapy for peripheral arterial disease. APMA will continue to engage Aetna on issues affecting podiatric physicians and their patients.
