On October 21, APMA joined fellow member organizations of the Alliance for Gout Awareness (AGA) for its annual stakeholder meeting. The meeting brought together patient advocates, clinicians, pharmaceutical industry representatives, and policy professionals to discuss ongoing efforts to reduce stigma, improve gout education, and address barriers to care.
Discussions focused on challenges facing patients and health-care providers, including misconceptions about the disease, prior authorization, insurance coverage restrictions, and other barriers to accessing treatment. Participants also explored opportunities to strengthen patient advocacy, expand educational outreach, and engage underserved communities as AGA develops its priorities for 2027.
APMA shared updates on its efforts to expand gout education through webinars, articles, and an upcoming podcast series, as well as its advocacy work addressing reimbursement, administrative burdens, and policies that affect patient access to care.
