APMA submitted a follow up letter to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), calling for doctors of podiatric medicine (DPMs) to be consistently classified as physicians in all MedPAC reports and analyses. The April 29 letter built on a March meeting with MedPAC staff and argued that current classification practices conflict with Medicare statute and misrepresent the training, scope, and clinical role of more than 15,000 licensed podiatric physicians nationwide. Accurate classification of podiatric physicians is essential to workforce analysis, payment policy, and access to care decisions that rely on MedPAC’s work.
