APMA Urges Congress to Reform Outdated Medicare and Medicaid Policies

  • Apr 19, 2026

APMA submitted a letter responding to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee for a hearing on "Lowering Health Care Costs for All Americans: An Examination of the U.S. Provider Landscape." The letter highlighted opportunities to reduce regulatory burden, reform physician payment, and improve access to Medicare and Medicaid services by podiatrists. APMA emphasized the importance of reforming outdated administrative burdens, coverage barriers, and unsustainable physician reimbursement, which threaten timely and affordable care access for patients with chronic conditions.

APMA is urging Congress to modernize Medicare documentation requirements for therapeutic shoes and improve Medicaid coverage parity by passing HR 7905/S 4070, The Diabetes Foot Health and Access and Modernization Act.
