Help Continue Grassroots Advocacy Efforts for the Diabetes Foot Bill

The APMA Advocacy Team has been hard at work strengthening support for HR 7905/S 4070, the Diabetes Foot Health Access and Modernization Act. Since introduction in March, it has garnered 19 new cosponsors in the House, bringing the total to 25, and two new cosponsors in the Senate, bringing the total to four. This growing momentum would not be possible without the dedicated efforts of APMA members who continue to educate lawmakers and champion the need to reform documentation requirements for therapeutic shoes in Medicare.

APMA members have been directly engaging with lawmakers to advocate for this bill. For example, APMA Government Affairs Committee member Samuel Gorelik, DPM, recently attended a Massachusetts town hall hosted by Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA), where he discussed the importance of the bill and the need to remove documentation burdens for therapeutic shoes. Because of Dr. Gorelik’s advocacy, Representative Moulton cosponsored the legislation the very next day. Now is the time to keep the pressure on. Help us expand bipartisan support and use our eAdvocacy Center to urge your lawmakers to cosponsor the legislation today!

In addition, podiatrists are encouraged to participate in APMA’s Medicare Therapeutic Shoe survey to support federal advocacy efforts for the bill. APMA is collecting physician stories to help demonstrate to Congress how Medicare documentation requirements create administrative delays, increase unnecessary burdens, and contribute to patient complications.

Please take a few moments to share your experiences and strengthen the profession’s advocacy efforts by completing the survey.
