Joy Oakman

Location: Hoboken, New Jersey

Personal Bio: I am originally from Pennsylvania, where I finished my undergraduate and podiatric education; and I have been training at a high volume surgical residency program in Hoboken, New Jersey, which I will graduate from this year. My family and I are looking to move to the South Florida area, and I’m looking forward to finding a practice where I can put my training to good use. Podiatric medicine has become my absolute passion, especially when it comes to sports medicine practice and surgery, trauma cases, reconstructive rearfoot surgery, elective forefoot correction, and routine podiatric care, as my training has provided me with extensive experience in every podiatric aspect. I have had the extreme privilege to be trained by more than 50 different attendings with different teaching backgrounds, and I’ve learned something unique from each and every one of them. I have also been lucky enough to attend a program where independent patient analysis and decision-making is expected and well-taught. I have now been offered the incredible opportunity to act as one of two Chief Residents this year. While the role comes with many responsibilities, it has already been one of the most rewarding opportunities of my life. I am very proud of the program I’ve learned so much from, and it is my honor to continue holding up its integrity for myself and my 13 co-residents. Residency at Hoboken University has also allowed me to perfect my surgical skills and appreciate collaborative work. The lessons I’ve acquired during this journey will be my key to success professionally, and I hope to continue learning in a motivated workplace.
