Matthew G. Garoufalis, DPM, APMA president, presented his President’s Award to Rep. Brad Wenstrup, DPM, Thursday night during the annual Legislative Conference here in Washington, DC. Dr. Wenstrup is the first podiatrist to be elected to Congress. He is a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserves and served in Iraq as a combat surgeon. He continues to practice podiatric medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
“Dr. Wenstrup offers our profession an insider’s look at Congress,” said Dr. Garoufalis. “We can relate to him as a physician, and he in turn helps us understand better how to communicate with our elected officials. He sets a great example of what we as podiatrists can do against all odds.”
