Reflect and Enjoy: A Message from Dr. Christina

Reflect and Enjoy

Practicing medicine today is so extremely challenging that we often spend a lot of energy focusing on all that is wrong with our current health-care delivery system. As doctors, we work long hours dealing with difficult patients, reduced reimbursements, increased overhead, burdensome regulations, and compliance with seemingly useless government programs.

During the holiday season, which often produces increased stress, it is important to step back and reflect on the good things in our life, be it family or patients we have helped who are truly grateful for the care that we provide.

As I write this blog, I have just found out that Rob Conenello, DPM, past president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine and someone who has been involved in the Special Olympics internationally, has accepted our invitation to deliver the keynote address at the opening session of our Annual Scientific Meeting in Nashville in July.

Rob’s story is truly inspirational—a runner, father, and active volunteer, he was diagnosed with cancer. His battle with this disease, attitude toward life, and actions are truly inspirational. His story makes you take a step back, particularly during this holiday season, to appreciate all the things we have. His message to “Do Great Things” should be truly uplifting at the meeting next summer.

I hope everyone has a restful, happy holiday and great new year.

James R. Christina, DPM
Executive Director and CEO
