APMA is saddened to announce that Past President Jerry D. Brant, DPM, passed away September 17 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Brant was a leader of APMA and the profession and served as president of PICA from 1997 until his retirement in 2012.

Dr. Brant received his podiatric medical degree from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in 1962. He was in private practice from 1963 until he joined the staff of PICA. He was active in the leadership of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association.

APMA News interviewed Dr. Brant in 2011 as he prepared for his retirement. He noted his great pride in the profession and its enhanced educational standards, as well as the growth he oversaw during his tenure at PICA. “We have grown the company from about 2,000 policies to around 10,000,” he said at that time. “That has been very satisfying.”

Dr. Brant is survived by his brother and fellow APMA member, Thomas Brant, DPM, and by his children and grandchildren.
