APMA highlights the work our members are doing, not only to keep patients out of the overburdened hospitals, but also to care for patients on the frontlines. We spoke to APMA member Danielle Dubois, DPM, resident at the Veterans Affairs New York Harbor Health Care System PMSR in New York.
Dr. Dubois and several of her colleagues stepped up to assist with the COVID-19 patients when their institution asked for a few volunteers from other departments to help. Dr Dubois said her podiatric medical education prepared her for this role. “Patient care is the same, regardless of speciality,” she said. “I have seen many different specialties including ophthalmology attendings, orthopedics, geriatrics, and more coming together at this time.” Dr. Dubois hopes the takeaway from this experience is that she did all she could to help her colleagues and patients in this time of need.
