APMA submitted comments on May 25 in support of the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Interim Final Rule: TRICARE Coverage and Payment for Certain Services in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. APMA supported the two major changes the DOD finalized:

  • permitting TRICARE coverage of medically necessary and appropriate audio-only telephone services when in-person treatment is not required across all geographic areas where beneficiaries reside; and
  • relaxing current TRICARE telehealth regulations which require that the provider be licensed in the state where practicing and in the state where the beneficiary resides.

APMA also recommended making these changes permanent after the COVID-19 pandemic has been resolved.
