APMA Responds to CMS RFI on Access to Care and Medicaid and CHIP Coverage

April 25, 2022

Medicaid and CHIP, get information

On April 18, APMA submitted a response to the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) in their response to CMS’ request for information (RFI) on Access to Care and Coverage for People Enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP. APMA focused on the importance of:

  • recognition of doctors of podiatric medicine as physicians under Title XIX of the Social Security Act, and
  • inclusion of podiatric physicians in the National Health Service Corps loan repayment program to strengthen and expand the health-care workforce to meet America’s diverse needs.

In February, CMS issued this RFI to solicit feedback on topics related to health-care access such as enrolling in and maintaining coverage, accessing health-care services and supports, and ensuring adequate provider payment rates to encourage provider availability and quality. According to CMS, this RFI is one of many actions CMS is taking to develop a more comprehensive access strategy in its Medicaid and CHIP programs.
