CMS announced on August 18 that it has created a roadmap for the end of the Public Health Emergency (PHE). This roadmap states there will be a 60-day notice before the end of the PHE. Providers should begin preparing for the end of PHE flexibilities, however, CMS has stated that some measures will remain in the hope of promoting innovation and advancing health equity.
APMA knows that of the various waivers CMS has extended during the PHE, two of the most important are those related to the ability to provide telehealth services from anywhere and payment for telephone services. Both waivers are scheduled to terminate 151 days after the end of the PHE declaration. APMA is working on providing comment for these issues in its response to CMS’ proposed rule related to the CY 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and will ask for these to be made permanent instead of terminated.
To see all of the waivers and the roadmap for addressing them, CMS has created an invaluable tracker as a part of the roadmap. Contact the APMA Health Policy and Practice Department at healthpolicy.hpp@apma.org with any questions or concerns.
