Following advocacy by APMA and others, Congress has decreased the 2024 physician pay cut by about half. What was originally a 3.37-percent decrease in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) became only a 1.68-percent decrease for services performed on and after March 9.
Starting on March 9, the MPFS conversion factor increased from $32.74 to $33.2875. This is only a partial victory, and APMA remains concerned that Congress failed to entirely stop this fee schedule decrease. APMA continues to collaborate with AMA and others in its effort to reform Medicare physician payment. This collaboration includes efforts to have physician payment consider actual costs of practice, inflation, and the Medicare Economic Index.
