At its April 24 meeting, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education reviewed Draft 1 documents of CPME 320, Standards and Requirements for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies, and CPME 330, Procedures for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies, along with comments from the community of interest. The council elected to create two tracks to assist in continued revisions of the documents.
Track 1: Create a blue-ribbon panel of experts in competency-based assessment and education, comprised of members of the academic, podiatric, and graduate medical education communities, to study clinical competency and milestones, and make a recommendation to the council on the implementation of milestones in residencies in podiatric medicine and surgery.
Track 2: Send Draft 1 back to the ad hoc committee for further revision, incorporating suggestions and recommendations from the community of interest, with a particular focus on Standards 6 and 7.
