APMA, AOFAS, AAOS, Request Increase of MUE Value Associated with CPT 28300

December 14, 2020

Advocacy in block letters

APMA led a collaborative effort with the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons resulting in the organizations submitting a letter to the National Correct Coding Initiative requesting an increase of the Medically Unlikely Edit (MUE) value associated with CPT 28300 (Osteotomy; calcaneus [e.g., Dwyer or Chambers type procedure], with or without internal fixation) from one to two.

The current MUE of one is problematic when certain double calcaneal osteotomy procedures are performed at the same session, as often occurs in the repair of pes planovalgus.
